MBA Entrance Exams Preparation

Common Entrance Test (CAT) is the gateway to the IIMs and XLRI. But because CAT is so extremely competitive and intense, most of us feel that it is beyond our capacity to get through the same. However, by following these few steps you should be able to beat CAT entrance exam.

1. It is important to understand what are the various sections within the MBA Entrance Examsand if you are not aware, these are the main sections, Quantitative Ability or mathematical aptitude, Verbal Ability or English language skills and Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning.

a. The Quantitative Ability section consists of topics related to Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Mensuration plus topics covered in the tenth standard.

b. The topics covered in Verbal Ability are reading, grammar, comprehension and vocabulary.

c. The questions on Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning are on Graphs, Charts etc. It is very important to know the content of the test, to ace it.

2. The second stage is to understand your strengths and weaknesses. It is always better to get an objective view on this instead of being your own assessor. Abhishek Jha, an IIM alumnus says, "You should identify your strengths and weakness and work out a strategy based on your strengths.

Cracking MBA Entrance Exams is all about time management. You don't need to answer all the questions, but have to ensure that you crack the maximum questions in what you are confident about and ensure that you crack the minimum required in your weak sections to clear cutoffs and thus division of time so as to get the maximum out of the paper is very important."

3. Once you know your weakness, which is the time to start preparing. Sometimes it might even require that you revisit basics to ensure that the foundation is strong. For example, if English grammar is your weakness, then you may want to go back to your tenth standard text books and start preparing from there itself. For certain streams like English, Mathematics etc.

The basic foundation has to be strong. A lot of mathematical principles are derived from basics and if this is not strong then there will be a struggle to understand going forward. A lot of people leave English to the end as they believe that this is easy. Not really!
